Become our new Chief Executive

Welcome from Markus Ruetimann, Chair of Young Epilepsy

Dear Candidate,

Childhood epilepsy can be a frightening, isolating and often a misunderstood condition. We exist to create a society where children and young people with epilepsy are enabled to thrive and fulfil their potential. A society in which their voices are respected and their ambitions realised.

Young Epilepsy coordinates vital research needed to ensure early and accurate diagnosis, cutting-edge treatments and better support for children and families living with the condition. We partner with Great Ormond Street and University College London in this work and are a founding partner of the Epilepsy Research Institute UK.

With young people we influence decision makers and change policy; and our Youth Support service helps young people across the UK navigate the challenges of living epilepsy.

For over 127 years, the foundations of the organisation have been the St Piers campus in Lingfield (Surrey) where we accommodate over 200 students with special educational needs in our school and college; and provide diagnostic services to children, who may have epilepsy in our childhood epilepsy health centre.

St Piers education approach is simple and effective – we believe learning is about so much more than classroom study. It is a nurturing journey of discovery in which students grow as individuals and find their independence. We have a uniquely skilled workforce of education, health, and care staff, who are dedicated to our work and everyday place children and young people at the centre of everything we do. The quality of the education experience is reflected in our Good and Outstanding Ofsted ratings.

Young Epilepsy’s new CEO will lead the expansion of the organisation’s reach, impact, and capabilities from a solid operational and financial base. Our teams are energetic, experienced, and engaged. We have strong partnerships and a growing supporter base and profile. We are all looking forward to the next chapter in the organisation’s strategy and welcoming the new leader of this wonderful and ambitious charity!
